Maker's Mark 46 Release Party

Austin was treated to an evening affair thrown by Maker’s Mark to celebrate the release of Maker’s Mark 46. Adam Harris, the brand ambassador, was our host for the evening. And what a great party he threw.

As we sipped on the whiskey, we socialized and nibbled on lovely bites provided by Pink Avocado Catering. It was a fun mix of people from foodies, to winos, to friends I know from the non-profit world. Oh and, that is probably because Maker’s Mark does a ton of donating to lots of local causes. Here, Here Maker’s!
We tasted the whiskey straight and I thought it to be rich, with a slightly woodier tone than the original. There was some spice, vanilla and a very long finish. It is a little higher in alcohol, which when drunk neat, was a little too strong for me, but add an ice cube or try it in a drink, and it was terrific.
There were some great bartenders there making fun concoctions (see recipes below). My favorite was the Golden Arrow crafted by the charming Billy Hanky of The Good Knight. The drink seemed to be a take on the Old Fashion. He used Fee Brother’s Cranberry Bitters, which was awesome. Side note: the use of bitters is huge right now. They add a subtly of flavor and balance; and, it seems that there is no better cocktail in which to use them than bourbon drinks. Orange, lemon, peach, chocolate and more…take your pick! We have a good selection at both Twin Liquors Marketplace stores.
All in all-a good night, great drinks and another bourbon to add to my bar. Now, go get yourself a bottle of Maker’s Mark 46 and have a good time cocktailing it up!
