NYEve-Crafted Cocktails

Sandra SpaldingSo, we got another call from KXAN and this time they wanted to know about some HOT (as in "what's sooo hot right now") cocktails. Of course in light of it being NYEve this week champagne makes sense, but we just blogged on Champagne Cocktails (NYEve-Champagne Cocktails). So, of course, I had to have a ladies night where I collected couple of friends and a handful of recipes that featured cool and groovy ingredients.

Choosing what to make and keeping it varied was a bit of a challenge...so after a couple days of "mixing" ideas in my head, I decided to head over to the Twin Liquors Marketplace at Hancock Center...a mixologist's mecca. I walked the shelves with staff members and we looked up some interesting recipes online. I wanted to create 4 drinks that featured some exotic liqueurs and some fresh herbs. That to me seems to be where "it's at" these days in the bar scene...at least in places like Austin, NY & SF!!

NYEve-Champagne Cocktails

CocktailsTime for some Cocktails! So, champagne is always on my NYE agenda, but I like to mix it up with some Spirit(s) too! This year I will probably drink an Andre Clouet, Paul Roger or Veuve Clicquot Vintage Rose champagne. Maybe I'll even treat myself to some great truffles...I only eat chocolate when it's really, really good. :) But I will start the night with some sort of bubbly cocktail.

Last year I talked about Wine-tales, so on that same wave length I want to talk about champagne cocktails and spirits...There is nothing more elegant next to a glass of true champagne then a champagne cocktail. Soft light bubbles paired perfectly with a complimenting spirit or liqueur. They are great drinks to serve when you've got a mix and mingle crowd and they are really easy to make....you just need bubbles and cordials/spirits.

I Like Beer: December Edition

by Duke Egbert

How bittersweet it is, on winter's night,
To listen, by the sputtering, smoking fire,
As distant memories, through the fog-dimmed light,
Rise, to the muffled chime of churchbell choir.
